My starting point for these pieces begin by coating the backboard with a neutral primer. Graphite is worked straight onto the board; alternatively layered papers coated in graphite are added.
Some pieces are purely made up of wood veneer which I tear into different size strips - these I heavily coat with dark, soft graphite and polish using soft cloths resulting in a metallic sheen. I weave, layer and entwine these strips to build my piece.
For other pieces I use an assortment of Japanese papers, repeating the same process with dark, soft graphite, I then lay the strips of paper one by one in various directions.
